Slandering is a Grave Sin

 Slandering is a Grave Sin

Mufti Tariq Masood is a highly esteemed and knowledgeable Islamic scholar. It is truly unfortunate that some individuals, who claim to be lovers of Islam yet do not even observe the outward signs of faith such as a beard, are stirring up discord and creating unnecessary controversy against such a respected scholar. Their actions are rooted in envy and malice. Before making any such accusations, one must renew their faith, establish regular prayers, grow a beard, refrain from adultery, avoid obscene content, and distance themselves from supporting immorality.

The Prophet Muhammad (saws) emphasized the importance of investigating matters thoroughly before jumping to conclusions. A Muslim cannot claim to be a true follower of Islam if they disregard such prophetic guidance. Slandering others is a grave sin that not only endangers one’s faith but also disrupts the fabric of society. Both the Qur’an and Hadith strongly denounce slander, labeling it one of the gravest moral wrongdoings.

Before engaging in slander, one should pause and reflect on their actions, remembering that attacking someone’s honor is a severe crime in the sight of Allah and may even be unforgivable. Instead, one should cultivate the habit of speaking truthfully and harboring good thoughts about others.

As Prophet Muhammad (saws) said:

"A true believer does not taunt, curse, abuse, or speak indecently." (Tirmidhi)

It is essential to distance oneself from all platforms that promote indecency. Rather than engaging in empty words, focus on conversations that are filled with knowledge and good deeds. Steer clear of vulgar language and backbiting.

I urge the public to remain steadfast in their prayers, for a true believer does not resort to abusive language; cursing is a sign of a sinful heart. Make it a daily habit to recite Astaghfirullah at least 100 times.

May Allah protect the true and honorable scholars and bless them with long, fruitful lives. May Allah make us all sincere, devout believers who embody the true spirit of Islam. Ameen!
